After remodeling my grandparents’ home in Rockne over the past year and a half, my husband and I held an open house last weekend and had a wonderful crowd of friends and neighbors stop by throughout the day. It was great reminiscing with everyone and sharing stories about my grandparents, Herman and Mary Goertz, and the family’s home place while giving tours of the new renovations.
Goertz Reunion
On Sunday, the descendents of Herman and Mary Goertz got together for a family reunion at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Family members shared a potluck meal for lunch and visited most of the afternoon. Each branch of the family was represented and the oldest family members present were Anton Goertz and Albert Till, both 91. The youngest family member there was four-week-old Owen John Klaus, son of Brian and Sarah Klaus and grandson of John and Helen Klaus. After the gathering, many family members stopped by to see the renovations of the Herman and Mary Goertz home place as well.
Domino Tournament
If you like to play dominoes, don’t miss the chance to play in an old-fashioned Texas domino hall and one of the last of its kind still around, Henry’s Place. This Sunday, Jan. 15, Henry’s is having a domino tournament with a sign-up time at noon. The games will begin at 12:30 p.m. and there is an entry fee of $5 per person. Bring your own partner to play or just come to watch and enjoy some snacks and good company. For more information, contact Ann Beck at (512) 303-7333.
