Robert “Robby” Cook, former state representative and lobbyist for the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District, is closely monitoring what’s happening at the state capitol as lawmakers, in a scramble as the regular session winds down, revise or add riders to bills that could adversely impact the district.

Kimberly Stiver and Tammy Stearman used to share life’s ups and downs as they walked along their neighborhood streets, but for awhile Stiver has been unable to join her friend as she struggles with polycystic kidney disease and undergoes dialysis while waiting for a life-saving transplant.

Bastrop County went from being one of many rural counties under the senatorial leadership of Republican Glenn Heger in District 18 to being the only rural county under the guidance of Democrat Kirk Watson in District 14 after new lines were drawn for senate districts and approved by the Senate last week.

As Towers Nursing Home employees, residents and guests released about 400 balloons into the Smithville sky on Tuesday, May 17, the gathering’s theme, “For every ending, there’s a new beginning” was heavy on the minds and hearts of those attending.
